When the Master calls, go!
March 8, 2008 I turned "64."

Someone said that having a birthday after a certain age is called, "turning," like what happens to milk when it passes its expiration date.

I turned "64." The alternative was to expire at "63," and "63" is no place to be terminated.

"Turning 64" had its moments, most of which I'd as soon forget. At 64, you must realize that forgetting is a distinct possibility. For those of you who have not yet experienced "turning," I will share one of those moments, just to whet your appetite.

As I approached the birthday in question, I had the occasion to fly to Accra for medical attention. In an effort to lighten Peggy's load, I decided to pack my own suitcase for my trip, a chore that usually falls to her. I'll have to say I did it quite well.

I even came up with one idea that bordered on the side of genius, which I forgot all about until today. I remembered it today, when I was cleaning my glasses for the third or forth time. Every time I cleaned my glasses, it became more difficult to see with them. Then, I remembered the stroke of genius that I had shown while packing for my trip. Airport security will only allow you to carry very small amounts of liquid on the airplane, and I use "Willam's Lectric Shave" with my electric razor. My only bottle of "Lectric Shave" holds more than is allowed, so I filled a small spray bottle, that had contained glass cleaner, with the "Lectric shave." In Accra I sprayed the stuff on my face before shaving. In Tamale I forgot and sprayed it on my glasses to clean them.

"Forgetting," comes with "turning." On occasion I go from one place to another, and when I arrive I've forgotten why I made the trip. Which makes me remember Abraham. Hebrews 11:8 says, "By faith Abraham, when called to go…obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going." Abraham went, even though he did not know where, because he remembered who was calling.

When you get a call from God, don't forget, and I'll see you in church.
