Aggies take two from Tigers
By Charlie Anderson Contributing Writer

The Thomasville Tigers saw their area record fall to 2 - 2 this past week when they lost two games to in-county rival Jackson High School. The Aggies claimed the first of their two wins on Thursday, April 3, when they edged the Tigers 12 - 11 at home. The second win didn't come until Sunday afternoon April 6, because of rain that prevented the two schools from playing on Friday or Saturday. In the second one the visiting Aggies pounded out 14 hits on their way to an 18 - 2 win over the Tigers.

In Thursday's action the Tigers actually out hit their hosts 12 to nine but came up one run short on the scoreboard. Leading the charge for the Tigers was; Alex Buford, Dylan Digmon, Jon Harrison, and Jamie Morgan with two hits each. Following them with one hit apiece were; Reeves Bozeman, Paul Noble, Tevin Pope and Kenny Sanders. In the extra-base hit category Bozeman hit his fourth homerun of the season while Digmon and Harrison each had a double. RBI leaders included Harrison with three, Bozeman and Mallan Sheffield with two each and Pope with one. On the mound Taylor Sturdivant, the third of four pitchers used by the Tigers, was tagged with the loss. In one inning of work he allowed three runs on three hits including two homeruns. He was preceded on the mound by Daniel Rogers, who started, and Jamie Morgan. Rob Anderson was the final pitcher used in the game. Rogers in 2 1/3 innings allowed four runs on two hits, three walks, and two hit batsmen while striking out one. Morgan then gave up five runs on four hits and two walks during his 1 2/3 inning stint. Anderson, who pitched the final inning, held the Aggie bats at bay while striking out one.

On Sunday afternoon it simply was a case of Aggie bats that were hot and Tiger bats that were not. In the game the visiting Aggies picked up 14 hits on three Tiger pitchers while the Tigers could only muster three hits. Paul Noble, who started for the Tigers and worked two innings, was charged with the loss. In his two inning stint he allowed seven runs on six hits, two walks and one hit batsman. Rob Anderson followed Noble and gave up four runs on two hits, two walks and four hit batsmen while striking out two in 2 2/3 innings. Daniel Rogers came on next and allowed seven runs on six hits, one walk and one hit batsman in 1/3 inning. At the plate Jamie Morgan, Paul Noble and Tevin Pope each had one hit for the Tigers. Noble had the only extra-base hit with a double. In the RBI category Dylan Digmon and Noble each had one.

On tap next for the Tigers is an all important three game area series with the Escambia County Blue Devils. The Tigers will be on the road Thursday, April 10, for the first one and then be back at home on Friday, April 11 for a doubleheader. Thursday's game will be the second game of a junior varsity/ varsity doubleheader while Friday's twin bill will be all varsity action. Following that the Tigers will be in Grove Hill on Monday, April, 14 for two games in the annual county tournament.
