COMMUNITY CALENDAR Statewide cleanup month The Clarke County Citizens Against Litter Committee has asked every citizen in Clarke County to help pick up litter during April, which is the statewide cleanup month. Citizens are asked to take one large garbage bag and fill it with litter from their area. If anyone needs a bag (or bags) call Rita Wilson at 251-276-3358. Hold your yard sale at Wal-mart Saturday, April 19, the Wal- Mart Relay for Life team will rent spaces in the Wal-Mart parking lot for individuals to hold yard sales. Spaces will rent for $25 each with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. Set up will begin at 8 a.m. and space must be paid for before yard sale is set up. Health Department moving The Clarke County Health Department will be moving into the new building located at 22600 Highway 84 East in Grove Hill the week of April 14 - 18. The office schedule for the rest of the week is: Thursday, April 17 - closed. Friday, April 18 - open as usual. Cemetery cleanup The Midway Baptist Church Cemetery Committee is requesting anyone having old flowers or containers, to please remove them before April 18. This will allow time for clean up work to begin for the annual homecoming and memorial service to be held April 27. Pearson-Criswell reunion The 28th annual Pearson- Criswell reunion will be held Saturday, April 19, at the fellowship hall of Oak Grove Baptist Church near Pine Hill. All descendants of Napolean and Della Criswell Pearson are invited to attend. Please bring a covered dish, old photos and memorabilia. Legal defense benefit The Southwest Alabama Improvement Association will sponsor a legal defense benefit program at 7 p.m., Saturday, April 19, at Mt. Olive #2 M.B. Church, 105 Griffin Street in Jackson. The purpose of this fund is to assist individuals to help defray the cost of legal services rendered. The special guest will be Jackson Male Chorus, Rev. Clausell Boykin and sons, other invited groups or soloists, as well as the Rev. Kenneth Glasgow, founder, The Ordinary People Society. Cemetery cleanup The Aimwell Cemetery Association annual memorial service will be held on April 26. Jewelry sale A $5 jewelry sale will be held from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday and Tuesday, April 28 and 29, at the Southwest Alabama Medical Center large dining room at the nursing home. Cash checks and credit cards will be accepted. Proceeds will benefit the Southwest Alabama Medical Center. Art exhibits The Thomasville Elementary School and the Thomasville High School will hold their students' art exhibits Thursday, May 1. The high school exhibit will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the T.M.S. gymnasium. The elementary school exhibit will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the elementary school. Roast of Clarke County mayors SWAIA, Clarke County ADC, Clarke County Voters League and Clarke County New South Coalition will host "A Roast of Clarke County Mayors" at 6 p.m., Saturday, May 3 at H.W. Pearce Jr. Memorial Park Assembly House in downtown Jackson. Rep. Artur Davis will serve as toastmaster and Mobile Mayor Sam Jones will be the special guest. For more information call Dr. O.L. Opine-Tallahatta VFD fund-raiser The second annual Opine- Tallahatta Springs Volunteer Fire Department's fund-raiser will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., May 17 at the fire station. Participants are asked to bring lawn chairs and join in a funfilled evening at the fire station located on Tallahatta Springs Road (County 44). Food, drinks, cake walk, white elephant sale, giant slide for the children and door prizes can be enjoyed. Gospel singing will be by the Dixie Disciples, Glory Road, Sound of Joy, Mallory Broadus and other local talent. PHVFD fund-raiser Pine Hill Volunteer Fire Department is planning to give away a cypress wood nine-hole martin birdhouse handmade by Adam Hepstall and his dad on July 3. The birdhouse can be seen at area businesses throughout Pine Hill. For information on how to win the birdhouse, contact any Pine Hill Volunteer Fireman or go by the Pine Hill City Hall. ANON Meets AL-ANON meets every Thursday night at 6:30 at Pineview Baptist Church (enter door at Moore Street entrance behind church). For more information call 636-9985. Story hour at the library The Thomasville Public Library has openings in the story hour programs for three-year olds and in the K-fourth grade class. Three-year olds' (Reading Bees) story hour is held each Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The K-fourth graders (Dragonflies) meet from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., each Tuesday. These programs require registration, so anyone interested is asked to come by the library. Homework assignments
Thomasville Middle School and Thomasville High School homework assignments are posted by all teachers each week. They are published by 4 p.m. every Monday for that week.
