The Thomasville High School Tigers earned a spot in the AHSAA State Playoffs this past week as the runner-up in 4A Area 1. Their spot was secured after they defeated the Escambia County Blue Devils 11 - 1 in a game played in Thomasville on Friday, April 11. Obtaining the spot wasn't an easy task as the Blue Devils pushed the Tigers to the limit when they defeated them 2 - 1 the day before in Atmore.

In Thursday's defeat, which turned out to be a real pitching duel, Paul Noble was charged with the loss despite an outstanding effort, dropping his season mark to 4 - 3. In seven innings Noble allowed two unearned runs on three hits, three walks and two hit batsmen while striking out 12. At the plate the Tiger batting order collected only four hits with Reeves Bozeman, Alex Buford, Dylan Digmon and Jamie Morgan picking up one each. All four of the hits were singles and Buford had the lone RBI.

Things got better for the Tiger offense on Friday as they parlayed eight hits into their 11 runs. Rob Anderson and Tevin Pope led the charge with two hits each followed by Reeves Bozeman, Alex Buford, Dylan Digmon and Paul Noble with one hit apiece. Anderson and Digmon were the leaders in the extra-base hit category with each picking up a double. Digmon set the pace in the RBI area as well with three followed by Bozeman with two, Anderson and Shaq Jackson with one each. On the mound Rob Anderson went the distance picking up his third victory of the season. In six innings he allowed one unearned run on five hits and two hit batsmen while striking out one. With the win his season mark improved to 3 - 1.

After competing in the annual Clarke County tournament on Monday, April 14, the Tigers were scheduled to travel to East Brewton on Friday, April 18 to begin the best two out of three series with the W. S. Neal Blue Eagles who captured the 4A Area two title. The two teams will square off in a doubleheader beginning at 4:00 PM on Friday with a third game scheduled for Saturday, April 19 should the two teams split in Friday's twin bill.
