Relay for Life is Friday night
The Relay for Life is a fundraising event that helps provide financing for cancer research and helps cancer patients with care expenses. A cancer survivor's reception will begin at 5 p.m. with official opening ceremonies set to begin at 6 p.m. As is customary, cancer survivors will walk the first lap and then be joined by their families for the second lap. The teams will start walking at 6:30 p.m. This year, the event was named locally in honor of Ann West Davis, who died late last year after years of battling cancer. There will be a grill master competition, an auction, team cheer competition and a special luminary service sponsored by Family Security Credit Union. Teams have been raising money for several weeks through a variety innovative programs. Donation totals will be announced after the final event Friday. There is still time to sponsor a luminaria for the event. A form is available on Page 2 of this week's issue.
Thomasville has a recent history of beating the fundraising goals set for it by the American Cancer Society.
