Witness when encountering God's creatures
I saw a strange animal. It was much larger than a house cat, gray in color with dark, dollar sized spots, over most of its body. Its slender tail was very long, longer than its head and body combined, and the tail was ringed, like a raccoon's. The head was small, and it had a sharp chin and face, more like a ferret than a cat. It had large, rounded ears, and big round, almost, bulging black eyes. It looked directly at me as though it was as curious about me as I was about it. I motioned for Peggy to come and look. She handed me our camera, and held the curtain while I took three pictures. Then the camera batteries died. We found more batteries, and I went outside to get pictures uncluttered by window glass and screen wire, but our guest disappeared, through a small hole, into our attic. We now believe it lives there. I found out it is an African animal called a "Genet," a distant cousin to the cat family. It is common here, though rarely seen, harmless to humans, but very harmful to rats, mice, bats, and lizards. Now we know what happened to the bats that once lived in our attic. Our encounter with one of God's amazing creatures reminds me that we have many encounters with God's most amazing creature, the one made in His image. My encounter with the Genet caused no harm, but our encounters with God's most amazing creature must do more. In Acts 28 Jesus said, "…you shall be my witnesses…" In John 20:21 He said, "…as the Father hath sent me, so send I you."
When you have an encounter with one of God's most amazing creatures, make it a witnessing encounter, and I'll see you in church.
