Three-way draw in county tourney

The annual Clarke County baseball tournament played over a two day period last Monday, April 14 and Tuesday, April 15 ended with no clear winner. As it turned out each of the three county squads ended the two day series with one win and one loss.

On day one of the event the Thomasville Tigers defeated the Jackson Aggies in game one 9 - 1 and then lost the night cap to the Clarke County Bulldogs 18 - 11. The Aggies then came back to Tuesday to defeat the Bulldogs 13 - 2 in their match-up.

In the Tigers' win over the Aggies, Jay Williams, the second of four Thomasville pitchers to log innings in the game, was credited with the win. In one inning he allowed one run on one hit and one walk while striking out three. Williams followed starter Kenny Sanders who in two innings gave up two hits and one walk while striking out four. Mallan Sheffield was the third pitcher used by the Tigers followed by Will Morgan who closed things out. Both of them worked two innings each with Sheffield giving up one hit and one walk while striking out one while Morgan gave up one hit and one walk while striking out two. At the plate Rob Anderson, Alex Buford, and Dylan Digmon led the Tiger charge with two hits each followed by Reeves Bozeman, Shaq Jackson, Jamie Morgan, Paul Noble, Kenny Sanders and Mallan Sheffield with one hit apiece. In the extra-base hit category Noble connected on his fourth home run of the season and Jackson slapped a double. Jackson and Noble both recorded three RBIs in the game to set the pace while Anderson and Digmon picked up one apiece.

The Tigers used five pitchers in their loss to Clarke County with Taylor Sturdivant, the third pitcher, being charged with the loss. In his 2 2/3 innings he allowed six runs on four hits and four walks while striking out one. Daniel Rogers and Jamie Morgan preceded him, working one inning apiece with Rogers drawing the start. During his stint Rogers allowed five runs on five hits, one walk, and one hit batsman while striking out one. Meanwhile Morgan allowed one run on one hit and two walks while striking out three. Finishing out the game Sean Skelton allowed two runs on three hits in 1/3 inning and Alex Buford allowed four runs on three hits and one walk while striking out one in one inning. Over on offense Reeves Bozeman and Paul Noble led the Tigers with two hits each. Joining them with one hit apiece in the contest were; Walt Bedsole, Alex Buford, Josh Jackson, Kenny Sanders and Russ Wright. In the extra-base hit category Noble had a pair of doubles while Bozeman and Sanders each had a two bagger and Jackson blasted his first homerun of the season. Jackson and Mallan Sheffield were the RBI leaders with two each followed by Bedsole and Sanders with one apiece.
