COMMUNITY CALENDAR Art exhibits The Thomasville Elementary School and the Thomasville High School will hold their students' art exhibits Thursday, May 1. The high school exhibit will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the T.M.S. gymnasium. The elementary school exhibit will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the elementary school. Fish fry South Marengo Fire and Rescue Squad will hold its semiannual fish fry on Saturday, May 3 at the squad hall, Coxheath Highway 10, Mile Marker 36. Plates will be available from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for $7 and will include fish, hush puppies, baked beans, coleslaw and cake. A bake sale will also be held during the same time. Green - Fluellen - Rhoads reunion The annual family reunion of the descendants of John S. and Sarah Fleullen Green of Packer's Bend will be held on Saturday May 3, at Roland Cooper State Park near Camden. Gates reunion The Gates family reunion (the William and Mary Eve Steffimire Gates family) will be held at 12 noon, May 3, at Gaston's Grill on Highway 43 in Thomasville. Lunch may be purchased at the restaurant. Fellowship and decoration will follow at the Gates Family Cemetery on County Road 35 in Syrene at 2 p.m. Gospel music will be by Keel and Family from Grove Hill. Roast of Clarke County mayors Southwest Alabama Community Coalition will host "A Roast of Clarke County Mayors" Saturday, May 3 at H.W. Pearce Memorial Park Assembly House, 500 Vanity Park Drive in downtown Jackson. Social hour will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and the program will begin at 7 p.m. Admission is $5. Congressman Artur Davis will serve as toastmaster. Softball tourney A May Day softball tournament for men and women will be held May 3 and 4 at McFadden Park in Thomasville. Band boosters meeting The Thomasville High School Band Boosters will meet at 6 p.m., Monday, May 5 to elect officers for the upcoming year. All members are encouraged to attend this important meeting as some of the current officers' children will be graduating this year and will not have children in the band next year. Alzheimer's support group The Alzheimer's Caregivers Support Group will meet at 1 p.m., May 6, in the conference room of the Grove Hill Memorial Hospital. Opine-Tallahatta VFD fundraiser The second annual Opine- Tallahatta Springs Volunteer Fire Department's fund-raiser will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., May 17 at the fire station. Participants are asked to bring lawn chairs and join in a fun-filled evening at the fire station located on Tallahatta Springs Road (County 44). Food, drinks, cake walk, white elephant sale, giant slide for the children and door prizes can be enjoyed. Gospel singing will be by the Dixie Disciples, Glory Road, Sound of Joy, Mallory Broadus and other local talent. VFDs fill the boot for MDA The Pine Hill and Lower Peachtree Volunteer Fire Departments will be joining forces again as they participate in the Muscular Dystrophy Association's Fill-the-Boot Campaign. The event will kick off at 7:30 a.m., May 24. Firefighters will be stationed around the town of Pine Hill and will be accepting donations. Donations can also be given to any of the Pine Hill or Lower Peachtree Volunteer Fire Department's firefighters between May 24 and Aug. 1. PHVFD fund-raiser Pine Hill Volunteer Fire Department is planning to give away a cypress wood nine-hole martin birdhouse handmade by Adam Hepstall and his dad on July 3. The birdhouse can be seen at area businesses throughout Pine Hill. For information on how to win the birdhouse, contact any Pine Hill Volunteer Fireman or go by the Pine Hill City Hall. The Thomasville Public Library has openings in the story hour programs for three-year olds and in the K-fourth grade class. Three-year olds' (Reading Bees) story hour is held each Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The Kfourth graders (Dragonflies) meet from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., each Tuesday. These programs require registration, so anyone interested is asked to come by the library.
