Timing is bad for a rate hike
OUR VIEW
With gas at $3.50 per gallon and likely only going up, we hope the Thomasville Water and Sewer board takes a long hard look at putting more financial demands on its customers.

While the average household's monthly bill may not go up by much, the costs of other goods like gas and groceries have risen enough this year to make all of us stop and consider the family finances.

The rate changes suggested at the water board's meeting sounded like a great way to raise needed revenue. All the board needed to do was make a few tweaks and all this money would start coming in, was how the pitch went.

Of course, that money doesn't come out of thin air, it will be coming from the hardworking citizens of Thomasville who are trying to make ends meet day to day.

We understand that the water system needs to support itself and that we need a water treatment plant and those things cost money, so we ask that the Water and Sewer Board look at these rate adjustments not as simply a way to raise revenue, but to also consider the impact of these new rates on the people of Thomasville.
