The Thomasville Tigers saw their run at a 2008 State Baseball Championship end this past Friday, April 25 when they dropped a doubleheader to the visiting Alabama Christian Academy Eagles in the second round of the AHSAA 4A State Playoffs. Although the homestanding Tigers had a chance to win both contests, in the end it was costly mistakes and a failure to come up with the key hit at the right time that spelled their doom.

In the first game the Tigers came out on the short end of a 2 - 1 decision. Paul Noble who went the distance on the mound for the Tigers was charged with the loss despite coming up with one of his best efforts of the season. Noble in seven innings allowed two runs while scattering 10 singles and striking out 10 Eagle batters. With the loss his season mark fell to 5 - 4 with one save. At the plate the Tigers managed only five hits with Reeves Bozeman, Alex Buford, Jamie Morgan, Paul Noble and Kenny Sanders all recording a single. Dylan Digmon had the Tigers lone RBI driving in a run with a sacrifice fly.

Game two of the twin bill was close as well with the visitors from Montgomery scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth to claim a 9 - 7 win. Rob Anderson, the third of four pitchers used by the Tigers, was tagged with the loss evening his season mark at 3 - 3. In 2/3 inning he allowed three runs on three hits. He was preceded on the mound by starter Alex Buford and Daniel Rogers. Buford in 3 2/3 innings allowed four runs on four hits, allowed one run on one hit and one walk while striking out one. Kenny Sanders who came on in relief of Anderson allowed one run on one hit and one walk while striking out two in one inning of work. On offense the Tigers recorded five hits again led by Tevin Pope with two. Joining him with one hit each were; Reeves Bozeman, Jamie Morgan and Paul Noble. In the extra-base hit category Bozeman blasted his fifth homerun of the season, Morgan connected on his second round tripper and Pope legged out a triple. Bozeman was the RBI leader with three followed by Morgan with two and Pope with one.

Even though the season disappointingly came to an end too soon in the hearts and minds of the Tiger players, coaches and fans, the 2008 edition of the Tigers accomplished more than a lot of preseason prognosticators expected. With only four seniors returning in 2008 many had their doubts about the Tigers' chances of producing a winning season let alone making a run in the playoffs. To their credit, they rose to the occasion and accomplished both and in the process laid a foundation for the Tigers of 2009 and beyond to build on.
