Lady Tigers Varsity splits in Jackson tournament
In Monday's road win over the Choctaw County Lady Tigers, Rachel Norris went the distance on the mound for the Thomasville Ladies allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out four in six innings. Meanwhile at the plate the Lady Tigers pounded out 14 hits led by Ashley Crawford with four. Joining her with two hits each were teammates Shelby Myers, Rachel Norris, Savannah Smith and Nicole Washington while Adreanne Boyette and Taylor Gilchrist added one hit apiece. In the extra-base hit category Crawford, Gilchrist, Myers and Washington all had a double. Crawford and Myers were the RBI leaders for Thomasville with two apiece followed by Gilchrist, Smith and Washington with one. It was Savannah Smith who picked up the win over Clarke County on Thursday. Playing on the road, Smith went the distance allowing the Lady Bulldogs two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out seven in seven innings of work. At the plate the Lady Tigers picked up 11 hits in the win led by Andrianna Penn with three and Ashley Crawford and Nicole Washington with two each. Joining them with one hit apiece were; Taylor Gilchrist, Shelby Myers, Rachel Norris, and Savannah Smith. In the extra-base hit category Crawford, Penn, and Washington all had a double. Washington also had the only RBI in the game for the Lady Tigers. Moving on to tournament action Saturday, it was the two hit pitching by Savannah Smith that set the tone for the Lady Tigers win over Leroy in game one. In seven innings she allowed the Lady Bears one run on the two hits while striking out 10. With the win and her win over Clarke County earlier in the week Smith improved her season record to 10 - 3. Over on offense Brianna Penn and Nicole Washington led the Thomasville charge with two hits each followed by Shelby Myers, Savannah Smith and Rachel Wright with one hit apiece. In the extra-base hit category both Myers and Washington legged out a triple. Penn and Washington led the RBI chase in the game with one apiece. Riding high after their win over Leroy, the Lady Tigers played tough in game two Saturday before letting it slip away in the eighth inning. Rachel Norris was saddled with the loss dropping her season mark to 5 - 2. In eight innings of work she allowed eight runs on 11 hits while striking out four. On offense the Lady Tigers recorded eight hits in the losing effort led by Nicole Washington with two. Others contributing one hit to the cause included; Cassie Flint, Taylor Gilchrist, Shelby Myers, Brianna Penn, Savannah Smith and Natalie Washington. In the extra-base hit category Gilchrist, Myers and Nicole Washington all slugged a double. As for Thomasville's RBIs, Myers, Penn and Nicole Washington were all credited with one.
With the regular season quickly drawing to a close, the Lady Tigers were scheduled this week to host Southern Choctaw on Monday, April 28 and Escambia County on Tuesday, April 29 before taking some time off to prepare for the Sectionals which are scheduled for Saturday, May 3 in Thomasville.
