Tigers claim their second FCA Power Lifting crown

The Thomasville Tigers extended their dominance in the annual FCA Power Lifting Meet to two years in a row when they defeated teams from Clarke County High School and Leroy High School last week to claim the title. The event which for the fifth consecutive year has been held in the Thomasville High School Weight Facility took place on Saturday, April 26.

More than 75 lifters from the three schools took part in the meet competing in fourteen weight classes beginning with up to 125 pounds and going all the way to 275 pounds and up. Each of the contestants in each of the weight classes was judged on bench press and power clean. At the end of the contest when all the points were tabulated the team from Thomasville had racked up 142 total points, the team from Clarke County High School had accumulated 106 points while the team from Leroy finished with a total of 74 points.

Eighteen members of the Thomasville team claimed either a first, second, or third place in the event with Deon Johns, Trey McKinley, Mitchell Cowan, Brandon Williams, and John Ellis all finishing first in their respective divisions.

The individual best award in the bench press this year went to Thomasville's John Ellis with a lift of 365 pounds. Thomasville's Brandon Williams won the award for the best power clean in this year's event with a clean of 295 pounds. This year's combine award, which goes to the lifter, who has the greatest number of bench press repetitions on 225 pounds, was also won by Thomasville's John Ellis with 19 repetitions.

The top finishers in all fourteen classifications and the high school they represented were:

Up to 125 pounds; first - Deon Johns THS, second -Tim Morrissette THS, third - Jarvis Dunning THS.

126 pounds - 139 pounds; first - Kendarius Allen CCHS, second - Zack Boone CCHS, third - Brandon Nettles CCHS.

140 pounds - 149 pounds; first - Torri Tate CCHS, second - Chris Davis THS, third - Avery Nash LHS.

150 pounds - 159 pounds; first - Sammi Coates LHS, second - Charles Taylor THS, third - Jon Williams THS.

160 pounds - 170 pounds; first - Michael Bracy LHS, second - Andrew Williams LHS, third - Javier Russell THS. 171 pounds - 180 pounds; first - Trey McKinley THS, second - James White THS, third - James Jones THS.

181 pounds - 200 pounds; first - Josh Erwin LHS, second - Jamarcus Williams CCHS, third - Lavon Davis CCHS.

201 pounds - 210 pounds; first - Jerome Ivory CCHS, second - Brooks Jackson THS, third - Jonathon Woodyard LHS.

211 pounds - 220 pounds; first - Raymond Williams LHS, second - Jonathon Hammons LHS, third - Brian Knight THS.

221 pounds - 230 pounds; first - Mitchell Cowan THS, second - Coleman Stifflemyer CCHS, third - Jamichael Hill THS.

231 pounds - 240 pounds; first - Brandon Williams THS, second - Eddie Satterfield LHS

241 pounds - 260 pounds; first - John Ellis THS, second - Nick Lambert CCHS, third - Taylor Carpenter CCHS.
