COMMUNITY CALENDAR Retired educators meeting The Clarke County Education Retirees Association will hold its final meeting for the 2007- 2008 year, at 11:45 a.m., Thursday, May 15, at Gaston's Grill in Thomasville. Hostesses for the meeting will be Lena Carol Bishop, Alberta Dixon, Betty Heaton, Arengia Knight and Mirkerline Talley. Officers for 2008-2010 will be installed. All education retirees, members and associate members are invited to attend. Opine-Tallahatta VFD fund-raiser The second annual Opine- Tallahatta Springs Volunteer Fire Department's fund-raiser will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., May 17 at the fire station. Participants are asked to bring lawn chairs and join in a funfilled evening at the fire station located on Tallahatta Springs Road (County 44). Food, drinks, cake walk, white elephant sale, giant slide for the children and door prizes can be enjoyed. Gospel singing will be by the Dixie Disciples, Glory Road, Sound of Joy, Mallory Broadus and other local talent. Snow White auditions Auditions for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, with casting for ages 4 through 21, will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, May 16 at the Thomasville High School cafeteria and at 3 p.m., Saturday, May 17 at the Clarke- Davis Performing Arts Studio in Grove Hill. Show dates for the production, directed b Amy Clarke Davis and produced by the Grove Hill Arts Council, will be July 18 - 20 at Sage Auditorium. For more information call Amy C. Political candidates forum The Southwest Alabama Improvement Association (SWAIA) will host a political candidates forum at its regular monthly meeting at 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 20. The meeting will feature political candidates seeking office or re-election for city, county state and U.S. position. All parents and supporters are encouraged to attend. Dixon's Mills reunion The annual Dixon's Mills School reunion will be held the first Saturday in June, June 7, at Gaston's Grill (formerly Ryans) in Thomasville. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. Hank Williams Festival The 29th annual Hank Williams Festival will be held June 6 and 7 in Georgiana with a fun-filled weekend of country music, arts and crafts, food and drink and good old-fashioned fun. Starring will be Jett Williams, Brad Magness, Shenandoah, T.G. Sheppard and Aaron Tippin. Also appearing will be Starla Jones, Mary McDonald, Colon Leatherwood, The Springs, Terry Smith, The Stoney Russell Band, Joey Alcorn, Ricky Fitzgerald, Elaine Petty, Meet and Hear, The Former Drifting Cowboys." The festival is an outdoor event. No reserve seating. Bring lawn chairs - no lounge chairs, coolers, food or pets. For more information call 334-376-2396. PHVFD fund-raiser Pine Hill Volunteer Fire Department is planning to give away a cypress wood nine-hole martin birdhouse handmade by Adam Hepstall and his dad on July 3. The birdhouse can be seen at area businesses throughout Pine Hill. For information on how to win the birdhouse, contact any Pine Hill Volunteer Fireman or go by the Pine Hill City Hall. THS 1998 reunion The Thomasville High School class of 1998 will hold its 10- year reunion this fall football season during homecoming weekend. The THS homecoming game will kick off the reunion weekend and other funfilled activities are being planned to make this an enjoyable and memorable reunion. Tentative dates for the reunion are Sept. 26-28 or Oct. 3-5. The reunion weekend date will be announced once the 2008 football schedule is finalized. The Thomasville Public Library has openings in the story hour programs for threeyear olds and in the K-fourth grade class. Three-year olds' (Reading Bees) story hour is held each Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The K-fourth graders (Dragonflies) meet from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., each Tuesday. These programs require registration, so anyone interested is asked to come by the library.
