OBITUARIES

Eldean P. Burge

Eldean P. Burge, 90, of Linden, died Sunday, May 4, 2008, at Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital in Demopolis.

Mrs. Burge was born July 15, 1917, in Fayette County to Blanche Eugenia Barley Peaton and Edward Gray Peaton. She was a beautician for more than 40 years and was a member of Linden Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for 12 years. Mrs. Burge enjoyed making coconut cakes, etc., for others until she was 90 years old.

The funeral was held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 7, at Linden Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Green, Steve Rogers and Rev. Randy Creel officiating. Burial was in Linden Memorial Park.

Mrs. Burge is survived by three daughters, Faye H. Anton of Linden, Jackie H. (Bob) Barnwell of Houston, Texas and Leola B. (Bob) Kennedy of Lubbock, Texas; one sister, Lena P. Cunningham of Montgomery; 12 grandchildren; and 25 greatgrandchildren.

Mrs. Burge was preceded in death by her husband, George Lee Burge; one son, Leland Burge; her parents; three brothers, Leon Peaton, Louis Peaton and Edward Peaton; and one sister, Beaulah Wright.

Pallbearers were Glyn E. Trotman, Trey E. McPherson, Larry Burge, Samuel L. Burge, Andrew Thomas and Jonathan Munner.

Alternate pallbearers were Mike Barnwell and Scott Munner.

Wilmer Lee Burroughs

Wilmer Lee Burroughs, 58, of Whatley, died May 1, 2008 at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m., May 10, at Indian Ridge Baptist Church with the Rev. Johnny Lynum officiating. Burial was in Indian Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Burroughs is survived by two brothers, Isaiah Burroughs of Whatley and Alvin Burroughs of Clarksville, Tenn.; eight sisters, Mary Patterson, Barbara Burroughs of Long Island, N.Y., Cleretha Brown, Josephine Slaughter of Dayton, Ohio, Margie, Daisy Burroughs of Hampton, Va., Marion Rawland of Gainestown and Annette Burroughs of North Lauderdale, Fla.

Pallbearers were William Burroughs, Ethan Pinkney Sr., Ken Horn, Sammy Jones Jr., Alphonza Harris and Kenneth Creighton.

Reese Funeral Home of Thomasville directed.

Lois G. Davidson

Lois G. Davidson, 83, of St. Stephens, died May 9, 2008 at Jackson Health Care in Jackson.

Mrs. Davidson was a native of Arkansas and a resident of St. Stephens. She was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing.

Graveside service was held May 12 at Midway United Methodist Church in Bigbee following visitation at St. Stephens Funeral Home ending at 1:45 p.m. The Rev. Lamar Chapman officiated at St. Stephens Funeral Home.

Mrs. Davidson is survived by three daughters, Carrol (Jack) Johnson of St. Stephens, Sheila (Ron) Troxler of La Plaze, La., Rebecca (Joe) Morris of Arkansas; one son, William Malcolm Davidson of Oklahoma; three brothers, Lester Gibson of Yellville, Ark., Elmer Gibson of Oklahoma and Delbert Gibson of Bentonville, Ark.; one sister, Teri Sappington of Atlanta, Ga.; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Davidson was preceded in death by her husband, William T. Davidson; and one grandchild.

Pallbearers were Mark Anderson, Jack Johnson, Ronnie McManus, Jeremy Finney, Ronnie Troxler and Kullin Clement.

Darrell Wise 'Tex' Forrester

Darrell Wise "Tex" Forrester, 73, of Linden, died Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at the Long Term Hospital in Tuscaloosa.

Mr. Forrester was born Jan. 28, 1935 in Petersburg, Tenn. He was a retired paper mill worker.

The funeral was held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 10, at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Linden with the Rev. Bill Broadwater officiating. Burial was in Linden Memorial Park in Linden.

Mr. Forrester is survived by one daughter, Mitzi Forrester (Greg) Gates of Linden; and one sister, Eva Jane Stockwell of Houston, Texas.

Active pallbearers were Randy Forrester, Greg Forrester, Bryan Forrester, Gary Barr, Ted Boler, Alan Sharpe, Adam Sharpe, David Van Dyke and Garry Hopkins.

Honorary pallbearers were the "B" shift machine crew, finishing crew and lab crew of Gulf States Paper Corp.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Linden High School library, or the softball and baseball teams for 2008- 2009.

Gladyes Chilton Harrison

Gladyes Chilton Harrison, 85, of Thomasville, died Thursday, May 8, 2008, at Mobile Infirmary.

Mrs. Harrison was born Dec. 17, 1922 in Holly Grove, Ark. She was a member of Christian Fellowship Baptist Church in Thomasville.

Graveside service was held at 3 p.m., Friday, May 9, at Christian Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Darryl Brunson officiating.

Mrs. Harrison was preceded in death by her husband, S.M. Harrison.

Pallbearers were Roy Phillips, Herbert Newton, John B. Lyles, Harold Agee, Larry Joe Rotton and Lee Rotton.

George Edward Hicks

George Edward Hicks, 71, of Pine Hill, died Friday, May 9, 2008 at Southwest Alabama Medical Center in Thomasville.

Mr. Hicks was born July 22, 1936 in Whatley. He was a retired logger and was a member of the Pine Hill Baptist Church.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 11, at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville with the Rev. Carl Williams officiating. Burial was in Pine Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Hicks is survived by his wife, Faye Hicks of Pine Hill; one son, Darrel Hicks of Pine Hill; one stepson, Scott Harvell of Grove Hill; one daughter, Debby H. Lewis of Linden; two stepdaughters, Barbara Pugh of Fulton and Donna Andrews of Bassett Creek; one sister, Lovie Edge of Thomasville; nine grandchildren; and six greatgrandchildren.

Pallbearers were Bruce Green, Doug Pugh, Danny Ray Pugh, Joe Lewis, Kossie Green Jr., Chris Harvell, Little Joe Hicks and Kim Sheffield.

Honorary pallbearers were Phil Andrews, Wendell Pugh, Kenny Lewis and Dr. T.B. Darji and staff.
