T'ville Council run-off vote to be Tuesday

Voters in Thomasville will return to the polls Tuesday to elect a council member and voters in Grove Hill will be back to select a mayor.

Those are the only run-offs in the county from the Aug. 26 municipal elections.

In Thomasville, incumbent Grace Megginson squares off against challenger Ken Nichols.

Megginson and Nichols took the top two places in a three-way race for the District 1 council seat at the August 26 municipal election.

None of the three candidates including Linda Vice, were able to capture enough votes in the three-way race to avoid a second voting. Less than 20 votes separated the three candidates.

Megginson, the incumbent who is seeking her fourth term on the council, received 54 votes coming in a close second to Nichols who received 62 votes. Coming in a close third was Vice, who received 46 votes.

Voting will again take place at the Thomasville VFD fire station on Bashi Road.

In Grove Hill, Mayor Lamar Hudson is running for a second term and is being opposed by Jerry Newton.

Hudson previously served as a councilman and Newton was on the council many years ago.

Hudson led in the Aug. 26 balloting with 36 percent of the votes. Newton was 11 votes behind Hudson with 33 percent. Town council member Terry Stifflemire was 11 votes behind Newton with 30 percent of the vote.
