Extra birthday calendars

New library hours

The Pine Hill Library began new hours on Oct. 1. Hours are: Monday - 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Tuesday - 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Wednesday 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Thursday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Come in and see the complete set of Foxfire Books and the new books on antique glass, interesting and different cookbooks, herbs, plants, folk medicine, arts and crafts, woodworking, etc. The library also has new ghost stories for all ages to get in the mood for Halloween.

Shrimp boil

The Coffeeville Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual shrimp boil beginning at 10 a.m., Oct. 20 at the intersection of Highways 84 and 69. Price is $10 per plate or $10 per pound cooked. For more information call Dwight Pugh at 334-608-3722 or Rickie Clanton at 251- 589-5862.

Flu shot clinic

The Clarke County Health Department, 22600 Highway 84 in Grove Hill, will hold a seasonal flu shot clinic from 12 noon to 6 p.m., Oct. 15, for anyone ages 6 months or older. No appointment is necessary. The cost is $15 for flu shots and $15 for pneumonia shots. Medicare and Medicaid will be billed for eligible patients. Patients must bring their cards for proper billing. No one will be denied a flu shot for inability to pay. For more information call the health department at 251-275- 3772.

Benefit for Michael Buckalew

Boston butts will be sold on Saturday, Oct. 17, with all proceeds going to The Michael Buckalew Donation fund. Mike recently had back surgery that did not go very well and has left him unable to work. The benefit is sponsored by Calvary Baptist Church. Thomasville Quarterback Club Meeting It's football time again! The Thomasville Quarterback Club will have an organizational meeting on October 20th in the THS Library at 6:00 p.m. All parents and supporters are encouraged to attend. We will continue to meet each Tuesday night thru the football season. Come support our Tigers!

Opine-Tallahatta VFD

At 12 noon, Oct. 24, the Opine-Tallahatta Springs Volunteer Fire Department will be giving away a Mossberg 12 gauge pump shotgun at the station. Members will also be selling Thompson Barbecue Pork for $7 per pound, between 9 a.m. and 12 noon. To place an order for the barbecue or to see how to win the shotgun, see any member of the Opine-Tallahatta Spring VFD or call Doris Agee at 334-636-2567. Proceeds will go toward providing equipment to better serve and protect the community.

Blood drive

A community-wide American Red Cross blood drive will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 1, at the Arlington United Methodist Church. Help save a life by giving a little blood.

Animal care and control

The task force to establish the Clarke Regional Animal Care and Control Facility has teamed up with schools in the region to host a donation table at each school's home football game. A volunteer group from each school will staff the table for the committee. A facility to humanely handle unwanted animals is not only very needed, it is also required by law, Code of Alabama: Section 3-7A-7.

Horton-Fendley Family Reunion

The Horton-Fendley family reunion will be Saturday, November 7th, 10:00 until 5:00 at Walter Park, The Coast Guard Base, Tanner Williams Road. Bring your favorite dish. Last year was the smallest reunion ever. Please call and remind someone you haven't seen there in a while and let them know that they are missed. This is our heritage and something that needs to be passed along to the next generation. Hope to see you there. Peterman Station festival

Peterman will host its 26th annual Peterman Station Arts and Crafts Festival from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 21, in downtown Peterman, 6 miles north of Monroeville. Included will be more than 100 booths with all types of arts and crafts, entertainment, such as singers and cloggers. Food will include collards, cornbread and Peterman's famous Brunswick stew, along with other foods and drinks. For more information or booth availability call 251-564-2260.

Homeownership training meeting

Thomasville Revitalization and Community Development Corp. will host a monthly orientation meeting for the ongoing individual homeownership training program every first Thursday, at 7 p.m., upstairs at the old city hall. For more information contact Barbara Hudson at 334-636-0518.

Art Exhibit

Attention Artists! The Grove Hill Arts Council is seeking paintings of

WILDLIFE to exhibit in the Cultural Arts Center. The exhibit opening will be October 31 at the "Heart of Clarke" Festival. Paintings must be suitably framed or on gallery wrap canvas ready to hang. Hunter appreciation day

The 14th Annual Hunter Appreciation Day Festival will be held Saturday, Nov. 28 in downtown Pine Apple. Events, beginning at 9 a.m., will include vendors, arts and crafts, and live entertainment. A parade featuring antique cars and trucks will begin at 12 noon with trophies being awarded in four categories. At 7 p.m. prize money will be awarded for the winners of the Les Moorer Big Buck Contest. Free basic computer skills class

The Thomasville Revitalization and Community Development Corporation will be offering Free Basic Computer Skills Classes beginning Oct. 20th at 5:00pm. The class will meet Oct. 20, 22, 23, 27, 29, 30. The Thomasville RCDC is located upstairs at the former city hall building on 138 Wilson Avenue in downtown Thomasville.

Fish Fry

On Saturday, November 7th, the South Marengo Fire and Rescue Squad will be selling fish plates at the Coxheath Squad Hall, located on Highway 10 at mile marker 36 across from Super T Grocery. The price for each plate will be $7.50. Each plate will have fish, hush puppies, baked beans, coleslaw, and cake. Please come and help support your local Rescue Squad.
