Agency on Aging to hold free memory screenings
      Individuals who want a status check on their memory can take advantage of free, confidential screenings on Tuesday, Nov. 17, at part of National Memory Screening Day, an annual initiative of the Alzheimer's Foundation of America (AFA) designed to promote proper detection of memory problems and strategies for successful aging.

      Mr. and Mrs. Kerry L. Cannon of Thomasville announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter Alissa Lauren Cannon to Steven Lee Riley, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Alan Riley of Headland. Time to order lights for 'Tree of Lights'
      The Southwest Alabama Medical Center Auxiliary discussed the "Tree of Lights" event during its November meeting. This event is held each year and lights can be purchased "In Memory Of" or "In Honor Of" for $3 per individual and $5 for "Mr. and Mrs.

Gates announce birth of a son
      Russ and Tara Cooper Gates of Liberty announce the birth of a son, James "Maddox" Gates, born at 1:29 p.m., October 14, 2009, at Mobile Infirmary. He weighed 8 pounds, 3 ounces and was 21 inches long. Maddox's grandparents are Wayne and Sandy Cooper of Surginer and Dwayne and Donna Gates of Liberty.

Health Fair today at Guard amory
      There will be a community health fair at the National Guard armory on Hwy. 43 south on Thursday, Nov. 12 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The health fair will offer a number of free screenings and reduced price screenings. There will be a free cholesteral profile given to the first 150 participants.

Tiger Cubs get hands-on washing
      The Tiger Cub Den for the Thomasville Pack 51 recently attended the Pioneer Days in Grove Hill. These Scouts got some hands-on experience washing clothes as well as some of the other activities during the event.

Palmer graduates from basic training
      Air Force Airman 1st Class Billy E. Palmer graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Chef Wilson comes to Monroeville Friday
      Chef Scott Wilson, CEC, AAC will be performing cooking demonstrations on the lawn of the Old Courthouse Museum in Monroeville in conjunction with the Second Annual Fruitcake Festival and the Holiday Mockingbird Market on the Downtown Square. His demonstration will begin at 11 a.m. on the south lawn and will continue into the afternoon.
