218 St. Francis Street P.O. Box 89 • Mobile, AL 36601 Ph. 251-433-3624 Visit the web site at: www.uswa.org The Clarke County United Way has met nearly 70 percent of its goal of $145,000 for the 2010 campaign— with $99,730 pledged as of last week. But that $45,000 plus is desperately needed more than ever in this tough economy because of the additional needs of many of the agencies who rely on United Way's contributions.
A list of the agencies funded by Clarke County United Way dollars appears below.
Diane Pruitt, this year's campaign chairman, said people have given generously this year.
"Our community needs to know United Way is a good thing and a positive thing. This year more than ever United Way is still a positive program," Pruitt said.
Everyone needs to be challenged to give—businesses and individuals— Pruitt said.
Marty Parker, chairman of the Clarke County United Way Executive Committee, added, "Certainly, the needs are greater than they ever have been. During this holiday season we should all consider our blessings and give what we can."
211 is a service of the local United Way that offers telephone connections to agencies that can assist people with special needs. Call 211 for assistance. Many of the agencies below help people who are facing hardships. Some of these include the Bay Area Food Bank, the Salvation Army, Catholic Social Services and others.
Contributors can write a one-time check or may a pledge that can be paid in installments during 2010.
A local allocation committee meets and allocates contributions to the agencies. However, a donor can specify where and how they want their contribution to be spent.
The Clarke County United Way is a part of the United Way of Southwest Alabama which includes Clarke, Mobile and Washington counties.
