Robert McConnell, 92, of Whatley, died Monday, March 8, 2010 at Thomasville Nursing Home in Thomasville.

Mr. McConnell was born July 1, 1917 in Pine Hill. He was a retired steam fitter and was a member of Horeb Baptist Church.

The funeral was held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 9, at O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville with the Revs. Tommy Gaillard, Johnny Harvell and Leon Harrison officiating. Burial was in Pine Hill Cemetery in Pine Hill.

Mr. McConnell is survived by one son, William C. (Nell) McConnell Sr. of Whatley; three daughters, Alice M. Parten of Mobile, Sheila M. Anderson of Perrys Chapel and Rebecca Cotton of Walker Springs; 15 grandchildren; 37 greatgrandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. McConnell was preceded in death by one son, Robert H. McConnell Jr.; his mother, Rebecca Gwynn McConnell; and one sister, Helen M. Bates.

Pallbearers were Sonny Bates, William C. McConnell Jr., Neal McConnell, Doug Parten, Charles Anderson and Phil Bates.

Honorary pallbearers were Randall Woodyard, Mark Anderson, Ray Mosely, Bill Schwatzhower, Robert Edward Garrick, Gene Parker and Billy Parten Jr.

O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville directed.
