Brasell

Willie Ben “Benny”Brasell Willie Ben “Benny”Brasell Willie Ben “Benny” Brasell, 63, of Montgomery died Friday, July 2, 2010 at his home after a yearlong battle with cancer.

Mr. Brasell was born April 1, 1947 in Thomasville to Willie Grady and Ida B. Goodman Brasell. He attended Thomasville Schools and graduated with the class of 1966. He studied Radio & Television Technology at Richmond P. Hopson Technical School. He then enlisted in the United States Navy in 1968. While assigned to MCB 58 and MCB 1 where he performed communications work and received several work performance commendations (one of them stating, “If there is a 4.0 sailor in the Navy, this man is it.” Benny was selected Seabee of the month in 1970 and nominated Seabee of the year in 1971 for his Battalion (MCB 1.) He proudly served his country in the Vietnam War. In 1972 after his discharge from the service he continued in the communications industry and founded B & B Teltronics in 1982.

Growing up Benny attended Thomasville Baptist Church and was baptized at the age of 13. Later in Montgomery he was a member and deacon at Southside Baptist Church. For the past 15 years he has been a member of Pintlala Baptist Church in Hope Hull and has enjoyed working with the children in the “Little Big Church” program.

A memorial service was held at Pintlala Baptist Church in Hope Hull on Thursday, July 8, 2010 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. His funeral was held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home with Gary P. Burton officiating. Interment was at Choctaw Corner Cemetery in Thomasville.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Linda Jane Black Brasell of Montgomery; son, Benford Bryan (Hope Moore) Brasell of Montgomery; two grandsons, William James Brasell and Brayden Jackson Brasell both of Montgomery; brother, Horace Kenton (Barbara) Brasell of Thomasville; sister Kitty Brasell (Gary) Borden of Kingston Springs, Tenn; nieces and nephews, Rhonda Hill, Wayne (Kay) Brasell, David (Kathy) Brasell, Jay (Tammy) Brasell, Detra (Kit) Emery, Zoia (Steve) Tomes; a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends he loved as family, Gene and Nell Flournoy, Howard and Elea Peppers, Wayne and Marie Woodfin and Grady McInnis; father and motherin law, John and Barbara Kutger; sister-in-law, Janet E. Price; brother-in-law, Howard Stanley Black Jr.

Pallbearers were Grady McInnis, David Faucheux, Howard Peppers, Wayne Brasell, David Brasell and Jay Brasell.

Honorary pallbearer was Wayne Woodfin.
