James Roderick Smith, Jr., 68, a retired millwright of Sweet Water died Saturday, August 21, 2010 at Mobile Infirmary in Mobile. Mr. Smith was born on December 13, 1941 in Nanafalia.
He was a member of Sweet Water Baptist Church and a member of the Nanafalia Masonic Lodge #335 F & AM. Mr. Smith was a veteran of the United States Navy.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at Sweet Water Baptist Church with Rev. Douglas Turner and Rev. Tyrone Parten officiating. Interment was at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Sweet Water.
He is preceded in death by his father, James R. Smith, Sr.; mother, Ester Parten Smith and son, LeeRoy Bryant Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Smith of Sweet Water; son, James R. “Boog” (Tammy) Smith, III of Sweet Water; two daughters, Jackie Joiner of Northport and Sara Beth Smith of Meridian, Miss.; brother, Raymond A. Smith of Nanafalia; seven grandchildren, Jeremy Baker, Sydney Thomas, Jacob Joiner, Jackson Joiner, Ryan Langley, Trent Sheffield and Sydney Sheffield.
Pallbearers were Boog Smith, Jeremy Baker, Herman Huckabee, Donald Ray Huckabee, Bo Huckabee, Ryan Langley, Marshall Parten and Alton Parten.
Honorary pallbearers were Terry Barr, Jimmy Tate, Harold Agee, T. J. Kirkham, Jerry Wayne Etheridge, Nolan Atkins, John Wayne Overstreet, Jerry Vice, Roy Garrison, Jr. and Leon Glass.
