Carole moved to Port Charlotte, Fla. in 1975 and made many friends in the community, most notably through her work at the Clerk’s Office working for both Buddy Alexander and Barbara T. Scott, her years at the Herald Tribune and later the Charlotte Sun in her roles as Feature Writer, Feature Editor, Beat Reporter and City Editor; her most cherished years teaching Creative Writing at the Cultural Center and finally her generous service at the Salvation Army as Social Services Director.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years and 11 months, Mike McCalister of Port Charlotte, Fla.; two brothers, William L (Cheryl) Jackson of Huntsville and Terry Jackson of Houston, Texas; sister, Paula Saucier of Huntsville; two daughters, Carole (Joe) Branca of Gainesville, Fla. and Sandie (Pete) Uhlir of North Port, Fla.; grandchildren, Channell Hernandez, Angela Branca, Miranda Burlison, Justin Hernandez, Crissy Bass and Antonio Hernandez; great-grandchildren, Angel and Iziaah Gonzales and Calynne and Abagaile Bass, and many nieces and nephews.
