Daniel Clark Cook, 71, a native of Sunny South died Saturday, December 25, 2010 at his home in Ringgold, Ga.
He was a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi in 1963. He worked for several newspapers before joining the sports staff at the Chattanooga Times Free Press in 1968. He loved the newspaper business and covered a variety of sporting events before becoming the outdoors editor. He retired from the Chattanooga Times Free Press in 2005.
After his retirement he continued his career as a freelance writer. He won numerous awards not only for his writing but for his photography.
He was a faithful member of Popular Springs Baptist Church for 28 years, where he served as a deacon.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at Heritage Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. Chris Petty officiating. Interment was at Anderson Memorial Gardens.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Eades and Kate Cook.
He is survived by his wife, Freda Cook; two sons, Jason Cook of Ringgold, Ga. and Sam (Amanda) Cook of Athens, Ga.; sister, Robbie Frye (Alonzo) Purser of Sunny South; niece, Dorothy Cook Purser (Jonathan) Kramer of Crestview, Fla.; greatnephew, Heath MacDonald Kramer of Crestview, Fla.
