James Calvin Thompson, Sr., 72, a retired logger, of Vineland died Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at his home. He was born September 23, 1938 in Coxheath. He was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church.
Funeral services were 3 p.m. Thursday, June 2, 2011 at O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. John Averitt and Cecil Dean Thompson officiating. Interment was at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery in Vineland.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jennifer Luker; father, James Leroy Thompson; mother, Maggie Inez Etheridge; two brothers, Glen Thompson and Roy Thompson.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Fendley Thompson of Vineland; three sons, Jim (Judy) Thompson of Thomasville, Calvin (Kerri) Thompson of Paradise, Texas and Woodie Thompson of Brewton; two step-sons, Charles (Rene) Syphrit, Jr. of Thomasville and John Dunga of Calvert; two daughters, Sharon (Donald Joe) James of Fulton and Cristal (Reuben) Broussard of Paradise, Texas; two step-daughters, Becky (Mike) Tidwell of Theodore and Sherry Dunga of Calvert; five brothers, Bruce Thompson, Ronnie Thompson, Paul Thompson, Donald Lee Thompson and Michael Ray Thompson; two sisters, Betty Jane McGilberry and Debra Dungan; 21 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Shawn James, Roy King, Jimmy Thompson, J. C. Goodman, Rickey Shephard and Eric Shephard.
Alternate pallbearer was David Thompson.
