Edward Gavin Henderson, 96, a retired postmaster of Dixons Mills, died Wednesday, Nov. 16 at Mobile Infirmary. He was born April 13, 1915 in Shiloh. He was a member of Dixons Mills United Methodist Church and a member of Oliver Lodge #334 F&AM.
Funeral services were 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011 at O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Dunford Cole, Rev. Leon Harrison and Rev. Aaron Carpenter officiating. Interment was at Dunning Cemetery in Dixons Mills.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Pittman Henderson of Dixons Mills; two daughters, Norma Henderson Dalgety of Dixons Mills and Janean Henderson (Terry) McCawley of Mobile; seven grandchildren, Scott Edward (Kelly) Dalgety, John (Becca) Dalgety, Jennifer Dalgety (Ken) Godwin and Anna McCawley (Frank) Linier all of Mobile, Mark (Kimberly) Dalgety of Columbus, Ga.; Katheryn Dalgety (Jeremy) McGuffin of Yuba, Calif. and Matthew McCawley of Atlanta, Ga.; ten greatgrandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Bill Harrison, Jimmy Dixon, Lane Smith, Lee Hamilton, Nathan Hamilton and Jim Freeman.
Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Frank Dozier, Dr. Daveta Dozier, Bruce Cogle, Jerry Harrington, Lyman Jones, Steve Glass, Henry Morgan, Greg Parten, Jimmy Clyde Edmonds, James Edmonds and James White.
