Herman Hoyt Jones
Following graduation from Pensacola High School in 1949, he served in the United States Army with the Headquarters Battery 36th Field Artillery Battalion at Ft. Sill, Okla. Jones then received his BS degree from Troy University in 1953 and a MBA from the University of Alabama in 1958.
Following completion of his formal education, he was employed by Shell Oil Company as an accountant and Boeing Co. as an industrial engineer in New Orleans, La. In 1965, Jones moved to Thomasville when Hobson State Technical College opened and served as its accounting instructor. In 1974 he was promoted to Business Manager. In 1981, the Alabama State Board of Education elected Jones as President of Hobson State Technical College.
He served his community in many different capacities including serving on the Board of Directors of Thomasville Hospital, Chairman of the Finance Committee and a member of the Administrative Board of Thomasville United Methodist Church, President of Thomasville Chamber of Commerce, President and member of the Board of Directors of Pineview Country Club, President of the local chapter of the Alabama Education Association and Vice-Chairman of the advisory Board of First Bank of Grove Hill. Jones was elected to the Thomasville City Counsel and served two terms until his retirement in 1991.
Upon his retirement in 1991, he moved to New Orleans, La. In 2001 he moved to Wilton Manors, Fla.
Jones enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, cheerful disposition and infectious smile and laugh. He was loved by his family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Mack Herman Jones; mother, Ruby Parker Jones Hankins; three brothers Bruce Jones, Hugh Jones and Mack Jones; three sisters, Hilda Thomas, Gaynell Evans and Bonice Stokes.
He is survived by his daughter, Suzanne Jones Mulliken; son, Christopher H. Jones; five grandchildren, Katie, Connor and Ryan Mulliken, and J.C. and Jessie Katherine Jones; son- in-law, Ron Mulliken; daughter-in-law, Virginia Jones.
