David Duke Lindsey, 81, died Aug. 30, 2012 at Mobile Infirmary. Lindsey, a native and resident of Whatley, retired from the Alabama Department of Transportation as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of Horeb Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Norene Lindsey; two brothers, Joe Payne Lindsey and Gayle Lindsey.

He is survived by his son, Mickey (Gayle) Lindsey of Pace, Fla.; daughter, Susan (Daryl) Drinkard of Thomasville; brother, Royce (Betty) Lindsey of Whatley; four grandchildren, Matt (Emily) Drinkard, Jessica (Matt) Barnes, Jay Lindsey and Cody (Karen) Drinkard; and two greatgrandchildren, Jayden Barnes and Mary Lindsey Drinkard.

Services were Sept. 1, at Horeb Baptist Church with Warren Shewmake officiating. Interment followed in the Whatley Cemetery with Lathan Funeral Home in Grove Hill directing.

Active pallbearers were Matt Barnes, Cody Drinkard, Matt Drinkard, Jay Lindsey, Myron Gregory, Samuel Gregory and Jacob Gregory.

Honorary pallbearers were Robert Edward Garrick, Bennie Fuller, Charles Knowles, William McConnell, Gene Parker, “Chicken” Rew and Rodger Robinson.
