John Jacob Jackson, 88 of Thomasville died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013 at his home. He was born July 3, 1924 in Thomasville and was the owner of Jackson Grocery Store. He was a member of the Thomasville Baptist Church and member of the Fishers of Men Sunday School Class. In 2006 he received The William Booth Statue Award for his years of service to the Salvation Army. He was a member of the Thomasville City Council and the Thomasville City School Board. Jackson will be missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie Merle Jackson of Thomasville; two daughters, Cheryl (Grady) Bedwell of Jackson and Beryl Anderson of Birmingham; five grandchildren, Don (Alaina) Anderson of Montgomery; Donna (Richard) Parrish of Madison; Brooke (Hampton) Smith of Mobile; Lesley (Michael) Lightcap of Spanish Fort; Elizabeth (Chris) Bailey of Mobile; five great grandchildren, Jackson and Kennedy Smith, Anna Catherine Lightcap, Caroline Anderson and Mary Pierson Bailey.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Jan. 16 at Thomasville Baptist Church with Rev. Ty Parten and Dr. James Best officiating. Interment followed at Choctaw Corner Cemetery in Thomasville with O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home directing.
Active pallbearers were Chris Beverly, Charlie Anderson, Bob Megginson, Harvey Sheffield, David Wright, Mark Gerald, Andy Jackson and Allen Jackson. Honorary pallbearers were Gary Cockerham, Joe Bill Jeffrey, Joe Hubka, Gene Overstreet, Willard Gates, Larry Crow, Jesse Galbrath, Al Springfield, Charles Wilson, Nollie Loper, Jack Bishop and Harold Smith.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Thomasville Baptist Church or The Salvation Army.
