William Blanchard "Bill" Gates, 83, of Dickinson died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013 at his home. He was born July 25, 1929 in Quincey, Fla. He was a former assistant superintendent with Standard Dredging Company and a member of Salem Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Gates of Dickinson; three sons, Bobby E. Gates of Slidell, La., Bennie C. Gates of Tucson, Ariz. and William Max Gates of Dickinson; daughter, Judy C. Powell of Thomasville; two brothers, Curtis M. Gates of Altha, Fla. and Jimmie C. Gates of Alma; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Friday, Feb. 15 at Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Harvey Hutto officiating. Interment followed at Salem Baptist Church Cemetery in Scyrene with O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home directing.
Active pallbearers were Jerry Burkhart, Luther Parden, Mike Norris, John Green, Bud Dunn and Russell Broussard. Honorary pallbearers were Tracy Powell, Travis Powell, Dalton Powell, Hunter Hughes, Tangie Powell, Nathan Gates, Shay Gates, Cameron Gates and the staff of Hospice Advantage of Monroeville.
