Sidney Russell Pope, 83, of Sweet Water died Monday, May 6, 2013 at his home in Sweet Water. He was born March 1, 1930 in Sweet Water and was a member of the Old Union Baptist Church. Pope was also a U.S. Air Force veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Pitts Pope of Sweet Water; son, Barry Wayne Pope of Meridian, Miss.; three daughters, Charlotte (Richard) Buckner of Eutaw, Charlotte (Anthony) Brown of Orlando, Fla. and Kathy (Brant) Hunt of Boligee; stepson, Cecil Pitts, Jr. of Waynesboro, Miss.; stepdaughter, Tracy Burke of Clara, Miss.; 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-greatgrandchild.

He was preceded in death by his stepson, Eddie Lee Pitts.

Funeral services were Thursday, May 9, 2013 at Old Union Baptist Church in Sweet Water with Rev. Larry Cox and Andy Etheridge officiating. Interment, with military honors, followed in the church cemetery with O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville directing.

Active pallbearers were Bill Lockett, Marco Bezoari, Zach Hunt, Pete Harris, Greg Harris and Scott Irvin. Honorary pallbearers were John Stegall, Frank Myers, Billy Smith, Ray Smith, Forest Corzealious and the staff of Day Star Hospice.
