Rivers

Chief Petty Officer Reginald Jay “Muddy” Rivers, III ADC(AW), 34, died Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at M. D. Anderson in Houston, Texas. Rivers was born Nov. 13, 1978. He was a native of Jackson and a resident of Willow Park, Texas. He was a construction manager with Voith, Inc. and Chief Petty Officer in the U. S. Navy ADC (AW). He was also a member of Horizon Baptist Church in Camarillo, Calif., American Legion Post 274 and National Rifle Association.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Elizabeth Smith Rivers of Solomons, Md., formerly of Jackson; son, Caleb Anthony Rivers of Crystal Rivers, Fla.; parents, Reginald Jay Rivers, Jr. and Ann Willoughby Rivers of Coffeeville; grandmother, Lillian Willoughby of Leroy; brother, Mathew Eric (Rhiannon) Rivers of Hoover and aunts, uncles, cousins, numerous friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Reginald Jay “RJ” Rivers, Sr., Vivian McClosky Rivers and Lloyd T. Willoughby.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 18 from 6 – 9 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Jackson. Funeral Service will be Friday, July 19 at 10 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church. He will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Trinity Memorial Gardens in Jackson with military honors with Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson directing.

Pallbearers will be Nicholas Goldman, Spencer Smith, Michael “Elvis” Presley, Jeff “Gumby” Grumboski, Tony Martinez, James Chivers and Chris Butts. Honorary pallbearers will be Brad Smith, Chuck Smith, Jim Dewhirst, Butch Brackin, Roy Schell, Charles Smith, Sr. and fellow Navy brothers and sisters.
