James Abner Christopher, 87, of Butler died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013 at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center in Meridian, Miss. He served his country as a World War II Veteran, U.S. Army. He was also a retired State Farm Insurance Agent and a retired Circuit Clerk and Register of Choctaw County, State of Alabama.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Ann Boozer Christopher of Butler; son, Stephen Clark (Julie) Christopher of Abita Springs, La.; two daughters, Charlotte Christopher (Edward) Pope of Butler and Cynthia Christopher (Carter, Jr.) Guice of Mandeville, La.; daughterin law, Melissa Jenkins Christopher of Butler; sister, Doris Christopher Jones of Thomasville; grandchildren, Dr. Michael Christopher (Lindsay) Pope, Dr. Jonathan Edward (Elizabeth “Libby”) Pope, Carter Kenneth Derrick Guice, III, James Oliver Christopher Guice, Ann Margaret Christopher and John Benton Christopher; great-grandchildren, Caroline Allison Pope, William Michael Pope, Charles Edward Pope and Elizabeth Shields Pope.
He was preceded in death by his son, James Benton “Benny” Christopher; parents, Oliver Bryan Christopher, Sr. and Jessie Bush Christopher; brothers, Oliver Bryan Christopher, Jr., John Young Christopher, Sr., Oscar Elmore Christopher and Henry Howard Christopher, Sr.; sisters, Lucille Christopher Land, Mary Lula Christopher Lindsey, Willie Bush Christopher Lancaster and Jessie Frank Christopher Phillips.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Oct. 24 at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Butler with Rev. Joe McKinney officiating. Interment will follow in the Butler City Cemetery with Bumpers Funeral Home of Butler directing.
