Gunter

Ethel Mae Barkley Gunter, 91, of Linden died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014 at her son's home in Sweet Water. She was born Oct. 8, 1922 in Octagon. She was a retired dry goods sales clerk and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son, Roger (Faye) Gunter of Sweet Water; two brothers, Rev. Brooks (Margaret) Barkley of Gallion and Phillip (Judy) Barkley of Summit, Miss.; three sisters, Clarice Reed of Thomasville, Jean Dunn of Linden and Evelyn Norris of Bay Minette; two grandchildren, Patrice (Fred) Clay and Dan (Joy Lee) Gunter and four greatgrandchildren, Matthew Gunter, Addison Gunter, Keaton Grace Gunter and Eli Clay.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Elwood Gunter; parents, Clarence "Boss" and Sallie Mae Barkley; brothers, Eddie Lee Barkley and Milton Allen Barkley and sister, Louise Etheridge.

Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 11 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Irby Weaver and Rev. Brooks Barkley officiating. Interment followed at Linden Memorial Park in Linden with O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Linden directing.

Active pallbearers were Dan Gunter, Matthew Gunter, Mack Barkley, Reese Barkley, Kenneth Barkley and Joseph Reed. Honorary pallbearers were the senior adult Sunday School Class at Calvary Baptist Church.
