Homer Lawrence Allison, Jr., 75, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014 at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital. He was born Aug. 3, 1938, was a native of Marysville, Tenn., a resident of Grove Hill and a member of Tompkins Baptist Church. Allison was a Vietnam Veteran having served in the U.S. Air Force from which he retired after serving 20 years. He had also worked for the Alabama Department of Transportation for 20 years as a Highway Maintenance Technician. He then worked at Walmart in Thomasville as a people greeter.
He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Barbara L. Allison of Grove Hill; sons, Jeremy S. Allison of Leesville, La. and Jason E. (Sarah) Allison of Silverhill; other children from previous marriage include son, Tim Allison of Georgia and daughter, Angela (Chris) Nelson of Andalusia; siblings, William (Betty) Allison of Jackson, Grace (John) Motes of Mascoutah, Ill., Trenton (Janet) Allison of Grove Hill and Marty Deas of Saraland; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Thelma Allison of Grove Hill and sister, Shelby Atkins, who is survived by her husband, Alfred Atkins of Tennessee.
Funeral services were Friday, Jan. 17 at Tompkins Baptist Church with Bro. Johnny Kendrick officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery with Lathan Funeral Home in Grove Hill directing.
Pallbearers were Jacob Allison, Brian Waldrop, Kenny Deas, Barry Chancey, Leon Allison and Heath Tucker.
