Major Bobby Leon Daniels (retired) USMC, 78, of Pensacola, Fla. died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014 at West Florida Hospital in Pensacola. He was born July 14, 1935 in Pine Hill. Daniels was a graduate of Pine Hill High School and a graduate of Livingston State Teachers College, where he played varsity football, basketball and baseball. He also played semi pro baseball. He served two tours in Vietnam as a helicopter combat pilot. He also served as a fixed wing aircraft flight instructor at Naval Air Station Pensacola.
He is survived by his son, Robin Funderburk of Dothan; daughter, Barbara S. Daniels of Dothan; brother, Lieutenant Colonial Charles E. (Janet) Daniels, Jr. (retired) USMC of Newburn, N.C.; sister, Peggy A. Daniels Day of Cullman; grandson, Gerald S. Clements of Birmingham; two nephews, Matthew (Susan) Daniels of Albany, Ga. and John Day of Cullman and other relatives.
Funeral services were Sunday, Jan. 19 at O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Kynard officiating. Interment with military honors followed at Pine Hill Cemetery with O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville directing.
Active Pallbearers were: Rudolph Daniels, Cleve Morgan, Jr., Joe Champion, Fred Champion, Johnny Tyler and Ronnie Moore.
