Roy Lee "Booster" Reid, 97, of Thomasville died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014 at his home. He was born July 24, 1916 in Thomasville. He was employed by Chevron Gas Company for 50 years. He retired at age 79. He was a member of the Elam Baptist Church for 79 years, where he served as chairman of deacons for 22 years, church clerk for 49 years and Sunday School teacher for 46 years. He loved to work in his garden and his main passion was turkey hunting.
He is survived by his daughter, Barbara (Robert) Smith of Thomasville; two granddaughters, Melissa (Woodie) Newton and Jaclyn (Johnny) Pugh of Thomasville; four greatgrandchildren, Grant (Jamie) Newton, Andrew Newton, Justin Browder and James Browder and one greatgreat grandchild, Kade Newton.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorena Pugh Reid.
Funeral services were Friday, Feb. 21 at Elam Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Dunn and Dr. Danny Ellis officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetary with O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville directing.
Active pallbearers were John Nichols, Jimmy Reid, Spence Walker, Johnny Reid, Tommy Reid and Kenny Kelley. Honorary pallbearers were the deacons of Elam Baptist Church.
