Barry Sheffield, 94, of Birmingham passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2014. He was born April 4, 1920.
Prior to his college career, Sheffield served with the United States Marine Corp. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee and he loved watching “The Vols” play football. He also loved Atlanta Braves baseball. He was a devoted member of South Roebuck Baptist Church where he loved serving as a member and life-time deacon. He loved his career as an Electrical Engineer with Alabama Power, and retired after 31 years of service as Manager of Hydro Construction throughout Alabama.
After retirement, Sheffield served St. Vincent’s East Auxillary as a dedicated volunteer and a Board Member.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Hilda Sheffield; daughters, Kate (Michael) Hankins and Diane (Cecil) Cole; sisters, Kay Sheffield and Marilyn Cochran; grandchildren, Amy (John) Phillips, Laurel (Matt) Browning, Merrie (Ty) Golden, Virginia (Robert) Duncan, John Hankins, Patricia (Cale) Griffith and Brian Cole; great-grandchildren, Stephen, Clay and Josh Phillips, Austin Hankins, Olivia Browning, Lilli and Taylor Golden, Abram, Elliot and Owen Griffith; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by his parents, Clay and Katie Sheffield; sisters, Blanche Nettles, Mabel Claire Hitchcock, Agnes Sheffield, Jessie Clay Shaw and Jane Agee; brothers, Clifford, Miller, Selden, Blinn and Hugh Sheffield.
Funeral services were June 14, 2014 at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Etheridge officiating. Interment followed in the Jefferson Memorial Gardens East with Jefferson Memorial Trussville directing.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to South Roebuck Baptist Church.
