John Bruce Thompson, 71, of Elberton, Ga. died June 9, 2018 at Heardmont Nursing Home in Elberton, Ga. He was born June 20, 1946 in Thomasville to James Leroy and Maggie Inez Thompson. He was a retired log truck driver and a member of Friendship Baptist Church.

He is survived by his daughter, Melissa Ann (Kevin) Turberville of Uriah; son, Marc (Cara) Thompson of Hull, Ga.; brothers, Ronny (Libby) Thompson of Syrene, Paul (Sharon) Thompson and Donald Lee (Liz) Thompson, both of Thomasville, and Mike (Kim) Thompson of Putnam; sisters, Betty (Peter Frank) McGilberry of Sweet Water and Debra (Vic) Dungan of Thomasville; seven grandchildren, Allison Thompson, Caleb Turberville, Raycn Turberville, John Marcus Thompson, Charlotte Thompson, Emma Dowling, and Aiden Dowling.

Funeral services were June 12, 2018 at Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Stanley officiating and O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home directing.

Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Michael Thompson, Randy Thompson, Clint Thompson, Pat Thompson, Frank McGilberry and Johnny Thompson.

Honorary pallbearers were Ronny Thompson, Paul Thompson, Donald Lee Thompson, Mike Thompson, Peter Frank McGilberry and Vic Dungan.
