No. 2 Clarke Prep team, coaches, cheerleaders and supporters pose for photo on a cold night in Montgomery’s Cramton Bowl.
The Clarke Prep Gators had an exciting season but the final game for AISA Class AA state title at Cramton Bowl in Montgomery didn’t turn out so well.
The Gators played Thursday, Nov. 17 in the school’s 10th state championship game but were unable to beat longtime foe Patrician Academy.
The Gators fell 60-0 to a dominating Patrician running game and a swarming defense and ended the season in second place in Class AA.
Clarke Prep is now 7-3 in state championship games.
When CPS Coach Ashley Carlisle was hired in 2021 that was the goal, to return Clarke Prep to the pinnacle of AISA football. In Carlisle’s second year, the Gators were at the cusp of returning to the top. Coach Carlisle observed., “It was a great turnaround from 2- 9 to state runner-up. Our only losses were to teams that won a state championship or played for it.”
The Gators will have to replace a very talented senior class next year. The good news is that the offense and defense will return seven starters each.

The cabinets aren’t bare, so the return to the apex is just beginning for Coach Carlisle and the Clarke Prep Gators.
