Annual membership meeting of Alabama River Credit Union will be March 3 at 3:30 p.m. at Alabama River Credit Union located at 3365 South Alabama Ave. in Monroeville. New officers will be elected and there will be door prizes.

All members are encouraged to attend.

Monroeville Literary Festival will be March 4 and 5 at the Monroe County Museum.

The Festival will include an opening reception with food, drink, live music, writing workshops, author readings, book signings, panel discussions, booths for publishers and self-published writers, a used book sales tent, local artists and activities for children.

The Harper Lee Award for Alabama’s Distinguished Writer and the Truman Capote Prize for Alabama’s Distinguished Writer of Literary Non-Fiction or the Short Story will both continue as highlights of the festival.

The Marengo County School System will conduct kindergarten and first-grade pre-registration clinic March 4 from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. and from noon until 2:30 p.m.

A child who will be five years old before Sept. 2 may pre-register for kindergarten. Children not already attending kindergarten and who will be six before Sept. 2 are urged to pre-register for first grade March 4, also.

A Certificate of Immunization should be provided to school officials for each child enrolling. The Alabama Committee of Public Health states that children between the ages of four and six receive a second dose of measles vaccine. Proof of the second dose will be required for each new kindergarten/first grade student at the beginning of the school year. The Marengo County Health Department in Linden is the responsible agency for administering this vaccine.

A parent or guardian must accompany the child and should bring a certified birth certificate, social security card, and blue immunization form.

The schools conducting the pre-registration clinic are: A. L. Johnson High School in Thomaston; Marengo High School in Dixons Mills; and Sweet Water High School in Sweet Water.

Children attending head start who will be enrolling in kindergarten must also pre register. A parent or guardian must accompany the child and must bring a certified birth certificate, social security card, and blue immunization form.

Southwest Alabama RSVP request the public save stamped envelopes received in the mail so that they can be sent to Stamps for the Wounded. Stamps for the Wounded helps veterans stay mentally active through stamp collecting.

Stamps can be sent or brought to the Thomasville Nutrition Center located at 147 Adams Ave., Thomasville, AL 36784.

Miles Chapel C.M.E. Church will host a Missionary Day Program March 6 at 2 p.m. The theme will be: “Be steadfast in the work of the Lord.” 1 Cornthians 15:58.

The guest speaker will be Minister Val Walters.

The church pastor is the Rev. Gloria Williams.

Everyone is invited to attend.

The Thomasville United Methodist Church will begin Lenten Bible Study and lunch Monday, March 7 at noon at the fellowship hall. Bring a sack lunch, drinks and desserts will be provided.

The church pastor is the Rev. Erin Bevis.

Everyone is invited to attend.

Elam Baptist Church will host revival beginning Sunday, March 11 through Wednesday, March 16. Sunday morning service will begin with Sunday school at 10 a.m. and worship at 11 a.m.

Sunday night service will begin with church training at 5 p.m. and worship service at 6 p.m.

Services Monday through Wednesday night will begin at 6:30 p.m.

The guest speakers will be as follows: Sunday – the Rev. Keith Box, Monday – the Rev. Warren Huggins, Tuesday –the Rev. Jacob Elliot and Wednesday – the Rev. Mike Hall.

There will be special music each night.

The church pastor is Time Meherg.

Everyone is invited to attend.

Springfield Methodist Protestant Church will host a three-day revival March 13 – 16 services will begin each night at 7.

Pastor Eric Smith will be the guest speaker for the revival and 11 a.m. Sunday service.

Pastor Smith has been the Senior Pastor at Mount Airy Wesleyan Church in Mount Airy, N.C., since 2016. His purpose is to challenge the people of God, through the Word of God. He is also an accomplished musician, who will sing and play during the services.

Everyone is invited to attend.

Thomasville Youth Day will be April 9 at Gates Drive Park and the Nathan Stephens Sports Complex.

TES students will receive Youth Day Shirt order forms. Orders are due March 11. T-shirt order forms will also be available at the Thomasville Parks and Recreation office.

Southwest Alabama RSVP has been recycling newspapers for years but can also recycle magazines and catalogs.

Recycling papers not only frees up three cubic yards of landfill space but saves 17 trees, 380 gallons of oil, 4,000 kilowatts of energy and 7,000 gallons of water. The RSVP also recycles aluminum cans. Bring these items by the RSVP office, located at 147 Adams Avenue, Thomasville, behind the police station.
