The Grove Hill Memorial Auxiliary will be hosting their annual holiday Masquerade Jewelry and Accessories Sale in the hospital cafeteria. The sale will be Thursday, Oct. 6, 2022, from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Friday, Oct. 7, 2022, from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. Cash and debit/credit cards will be accepted. Masks will not be required but welcomed. All proceeds will benefit the hospital Auxiliary. For more information, call 251- 769.5645.
The 17th annual Butler Fest will be hosted Oct 7 and 8. Beginning Friday there will be a carnival for children of all ages. There will be over 75 vendors for food, arts and craft vendors that will be set around Courthouse Square starting Friday morning.
Back by popular demand will be the Backyard Barbeque Competition featuring chicken and ribs, anything butt, sauces and desserts. Winners from the barbecue competition will be announced Saturday afternoon following judging.
Saturday will kick off with a 5K run, a two-mile walk, and Kid’s Fun Run.
There will be live entertainment both Friday and Saturday night.
For vendors looking to setup a booth they are 10×12 no exceptions. If you have a concession or tent that is bigger than 10 x 12 you will need to purchase two spaces. All electricity required vendor spots are limited, booths with electricity are first come first served basis.
Prices are for a regular booth are $50 per day and $75 for two days.

Forest Springs Baptist Church will host homecoming services Oct. 9, 2022 in Morvin. Services will begin at 10 a.m. with a memorial of loved ones in the Forest Springs Cemetery followed by a singing and worship service.
Guest speaker will be Perry Daily and music will be provided by “The Revelators” of Thomasville.
A meal with fellowship of family and friends will be available.
We request all families send a donation for the upkeep of Forest Springs Cemetery if you have loved ones buried in the cemetery. Upkeep of the cemetery is costly and there is no financial support from state or county officials.

Amazing Grace Deliverance Church has announced the celebration of their church anniversary and Pack-A-Pew service Sunday, Oct. 9 at 1 p.m.
Guest speaker will be the Rev. Karl Peoples, pastor of Union Missionary in Vineland and Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in Carlton.

The Kathryn Tucker Windham Ghost Walk will be Oct. 15 in downtown Thomasville. There will be vendors, a carnival, haunted house, family hay rides and a dog and child costume contest.
Pine Hill Depot Day will be Oct. 15 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
There will be food, children’s events, live entertainment and door prizes.
There was no Depot Day in 2020 due to Covid concerns and during 2021 the Depot was being repaired after storm damage took off the roof and destroyed the stage area. With the repairs finished, the committee is trying to get Depot Day going again.
The head of the Depot Day Committee is Sandy Criswell.

The Salvation Army is beginning to plan for the 2022 Bell Ringing season. Many more helpers are needed this year.

Round Hill Baptist Church will host Founders Day and homecoming services.
Founders Day services will be Sunday, Oct. 16 with Sunday School beginning at 10 a.m., morning worship follows at 11 a.m.
Lunch will be served in the fellowship hall following the morning message.
There will be no evening services.
Then revival services will be Monday through Wednesday, Oct. 17- 19, at 7 nightly.
There will be special music for each of the services.
Brother Clay Davis will be the Founders Day and revival speaker.

Southwest Alabama RSVP will be doing taxes for 2022, January through April 2023. You are never too old to help someone by learning tax counseling.
If you can use a computer and are 55 or older, the training is free. Can you volunteer some hours from end of January through April 15, 2023.
We need volunteers who would like to participate in this community service to sign up, so that they can start getting prepared.

Tues., Oct. 18 – 9:30 – 12:30 a.m. and 1:30 – 4 p.m.
Thurs., Oct. 20 – 9:30 – 12:30 a.m. and 1:30 – 4 p.m.
Tues., Oct. 25 – 9:30 – 12:30 a.m. and 1:30 – 4 p.m.
Thurs., Oct. 27 – 9:30 – 12:30 a.m. and 1:30 – 4 p.m.
Only residents of Clarke and Monroe counties will be serviced.
If you have received Angel Tree three times, you are not eligible.
Children from birth – 12 will be eligible.
The Salvation Army is not making appointments, but will be seeing people as they come into the store on the dates and times listed. You may have to wait for your turn.
Bring copies of all items needed that can be kept. We DO NOT make copies.
Below are the items for which you will need copies.
*Picture ID of head of household
*Birth certificate for each child eligible
*If the child does not belong to the head of household, you must bring proof of guardianship or a letter and all the necessary paperwork from the child’s household.
*Proof of income for anyone in the household, including a food stamp print out from DHR of amount received, child support, SSI for any in the household that receive, and any other income coming into the house. If the household bills are not in your name, please bring information of the one who receives the money.
*All monthly household bills from the previous month. If you do not pay the bills, please bring this information for the one who does.
*Proof of physical address. This is found on power, cable or water bill. If these are not in your name, you must bring something with your physical address, not a box number.
Sizes of children. Be specific. (youth, adult, husky, tall)
Also, have an idea of what your child would like. No electronics will be offered. Bikes are optional.
The Salvation Army requests that you do not bring children or extra people.
Pioneer Day will be hosted Saturday, Oct. 29 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Clarke County Museum in Grove Hill.
The museum is located at 116 West Cobb. St. in Grove Hill.
Thomasville’s Country Christmas Parade will be Saturday, Dec. 3.
The parade will begin at 10 a.m. and the downtown stroll will follow.

The 2023 Outdoor Alabama Photo Contest began accepting entries Tuesday, Aug. 2.
The deadline to enter is Oct. 31, 2022.
The contest will focus on traditional photography techniques and the use of handheld cameras. No cellphone, smartphone, game camera, or drone photography will be chosen as winning photos for nine of the 10 categories. Smartphone and tablet photos will be accepted in the Young Photographers category.
The photo contest is open to state residents and visitors alike, but qualifying photos must have been taken in Alabama in the past two years. Any amateur photographer not employed by ADCNR is encouraged to enter.
A total of eight photos per person may be entered in the following categories. You may enter all eight in one category or among several categories.
2023 Outdoor Alabama Photo Contest Categories are as follows: Alabama State Parks, Birds, Bugs and Butterflies, Coldblooded Critters, Nature- Based Recreation, Scenic, Shoots and Roots, Sweet Home Alabama, Wildlife and Young Photographers (ages 17 and under)

Independent Missionary Baptist Church of Sweet Water will host Family and Friend’s Day on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 2 p.m. Sunday School will begin at 9:30 a.m. follow by regular worship services at 11a.m.
The church is located on County Road 6 in Sweetwater.
Everyone is invited to join this old fashion celebration of singing and giving praise.
