First Presbyterian Church of Jackson to celebrate its 150th anniversary Sunday, Jan. 15 at 2 p.m.

Pastor Taylor Morgan welcomes all to take part in this special celebration.

A reception will follow.

Register now for Sweet Water High School kid’s baseball camp to be hosted Feb. 2, 2023 from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Forms are now available at the SWH school office.

The camp is for 2nd – 6th grade boys, t-shirt will be included and a lunch will be provided.

Registration cost is $50.

Southwest Alabama RSVP has been recycling newspapers for years but can also recycle magazines and catalogs.

Recycling papers not only frees up three cubic yards of landfill space but saves 17 trees, 380 gallons of oil, 4,000 kilowatts of energy and 7,000 gallons of water. The RSVP also recycles aluminum cans. Bring these items by the RSVP office, located at 147 Adams Avenue, Thomasville, behind the police station.

Southwest Alabama RSVP will be doing taxes for 2022, January through April 2023. You are never too old to help someone by learning tax counseling.

If you can use a computer and are 55 or older, the training is free. Can you volunteer some hours from end of January through April 15, 2023.

RSVP needs volunteers who would like to participate in this community service to sign up, so that they can start getting prepared.

Alabama Department of Public Health is offering Alabama’s smokers help with quitting tobacco or vaping with the Alabama Tobacco Quitline.

Alabama residents can call 1-800-QUIT-NOW (1- 800-784-8669) or visit quitnowalabama.com for free help.

Those who enroll in the program will be offered free coaching services over the telephone or online and receive up to eight weeks of free nicotine replacement therapy.

The quit line is available seven days a week from 6 a.m. to midnight

Clarke County Animal Shelter is conducting a surrender and spay program.

Surrender all pups and spay the mom for a fee of $100, that also includes her rabies shot.
