Powell

 

Kossie Ray Powell, 76, passed away on July 2, 2023. He was born on March 18, 1947, to Marion Henri and Ruby Criswell Powell. He graduated from Clarke County High School and then attended Troy University before returning home to Grove Hill. Powell married Judy Payne Powell, and they had one child, Virginia Kate Powell Jordan. He was a faithful member of the Grove Hill United Methodist Church.

He served as the assistant administrator of Grove Hill Memorial Hospital prior to establishing his family’s logging business, Powell Trucking Company. He was a member of the Alabama National Guard.

He was a charter member of the Grove Hill Lions Club, served on the Board of Directors at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital, represented District 4 on the Grove Hill Town Council and one of his proudest accomplishments was serving as Chairman of the Grove Hill Utilities Board. He dedicated 47 years to this position.

Powell is survived by his daughter, Kate Jordan and son-in-law, Allen Jordan; three grandchildren, Charles (Tabitha) Jordan, Sally Margaret Jordan and Olivia Harris Jordan; two great grandchildren, Lily and Sarah Jordan; three brothers, Jimmy (Dot) Powell, Mike (Debbie) Powell and Dennis (Marsha) Powell.

A graveside service was July 6, 2023 at Magnolia Lawn Cemetery in Grove Hill.
